In the dead of night
Blackbirds have always been in my life, I recall early memories walking with my father, hand in hand – he used to point out birds to me – a skylark high up, a song thrush on the branch – a blackbird “singing in the dead of night” – he would warble. This was the first canvas I painted when I started seriously painting again and I wanted to convey that birds don’t just sing at dawn and dusk – they are always there at night too.
